The Five Elements of Nature and their qualities.
The five elements of nature are not such a difficult concept to understand. They are not elements in the sense of the periodic elements of nature, and a better analogy would be to the various states of matter.
Each element has certain attributes. These attributes are from a list of twenty qualities which explain all matter.
The first element is Ether.
Ether can be understood in the idea of a basic connectivity between all nature. Ether can also be understood in the most basic form of matter. Ether lacks any heat or moisture and as such it is cold and dry. Ether is the least dense element and is light, clear, static and subtle. It also has a flowing attribute and is sharp and clear.
The next element is Air.
Air can be understood, as gas, but also the forces behind motion and movement. For example, the movement of an automobile would be governed by the Air element. The Air element shares the same attributes as Ether with the exception of being static, as Air is inherently mobile, additionally, Air can also be hard and rough. Air tends to dry things out and make them hard. The increase of Air element can be a primary factor in disease.
The next element is Fire.
Fire is of course, understood as heat. Light and radiant energy is also related to the Fire element. Fire is also behind the idea of transformation, turning one thing into another, whether it be physical matter or information and stimuli. Fire shares its attributes with the Air element, with the notable exception of Fire being hot and Air cold. Fire is particularly sharp in nature and has the ability to penetrate and consume.
The next element is Water.
Water represents the idea of flow. In physical matter, water can also be understood as the liquid state. Water lacks its own heat and is cold. Water is moist and owing to its density, it is also cloudy, heavy and gross. Water is also dull and has a ability to soften things and smooth them out. Water also is static in nature.
The last element is Earth.
Earth is the most dense of all the elements and thus can be thought of in terms of things that are solid. This would cover all things solid in terms of the states of physical matter. Earth also lacks it’s own heat and thus would be cold. It also lacks any moisture and is dry, hard and rough. Owing to it’s density, Earth is heavy, gross and dense in nature. Earth also is cloudy and static in nature. Earth is behind obstructions and blockages. Earth covers all solid matter.
